I agree completely. and also see some of myself in the lyrics as well, but not to the extent that it describes this person....If I hadn't read that all the songs on the album were about addiction from different points of view, I'd swear that "The Package" was about The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists by Neil Strauss. It's an unbelievably good book, that I recommend to anyone. The person the song reminds me of recommended it to me.
"Lie to get what I came for
Lie to get just what I need
Lie to get what I crave
Lie and smile to get what's mine..."
"Eye on what I'm after
I don't need another friend
Smile and drop the cliche
'til you think I'm listenin'
Take just what I came for
Then I'm out the door again"
I always thought that the Package was about using people, and well, 'getting what you came for' at the expense of others; and not really giving a shit, in certain situations granted. Upon reading it with addiction in mind, I can see how that's what it might be about.
I like the
"Smile and drop the cliche
'til you think I'm listenin'
Take just what I came for
Then I'm out the door again"
part. That's the one that reminds me of Catlin. People use you, sometimes you have to use back, it's a sad state of affairs. But, so it goes.
